SST Supports Local Karate Club with Sponsorship

karateSST Sensing recently shown support to their local community by backing Wado Kai Central Karate (W. K. C Karate) by sponsoring the club to help them achieve their ultimate goal in getting to the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

W.K.C Karate are a small village club who were established in Holytown CEC over 42 years ago. They are members of the Scottish Karate Federation and the Scottish Karate Governing Body. At W.K.C Karate, they teach all ages from small children to adults in a fun and exciting environment. W.K. C Karate is all about teaching self discipline, developing co-ordination and increasing confidence. For the smaller children, it is important that they learn all about team work, helping each other and sportsmanship.

The club instructors, Charlie Lindsay and Grant and Kirsten Bonar have led the club to what it is today. They are all extremely active in the Scottish Karate from club level to Governing Body. With years of experience, knowledge and extraordinary achievements over the years in the sport, the future of the club is in excellent hands.

W.K.C Karate now has 80 members ranging from 4 years to 69 years old. The club is very active in Scottish, National, British and International level competitions.

In 2015, the club received 200 trophies over 18 competitions. Already in 2016, they have broken their own record of 200 trophies and still have 3 competitions to go. Five of their members were promoted from the Scottish Karate Federation (SKF) Scotland squad to the SKF Elite Scotland squad. An outstanding achievement for the students and the club.

The ultimate goal for the club is to get to the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo, now that the sport has been recognised. W.K.C Karate are planning four European trips next year to compete in international competitions, helping them to prepare their young members who have the ability to be considered for the Scottish Olympic team.

The club funds have helped take their members to Belgium, Luxemburg, Denmark and Switzerland. They have also helped Grant and Kirsten attend European Championships to sit their referee qualifications. The funding in which SST provide will go toward overseas trips and qualifications, taking some of the financial pressure off the club.

SST are extremely happy to be helping such a hard working, determined and ambitious club. They have achieved wonderful things over the years and SST are delighted to now be a part of their future.
