Ella started playing basketball when she was 8 years old with the local basketball club, Kinross Cavaliers.
At age 10 she was selected to play for the Scotland under 12 girls team and travelled to Andorra to participate in an international tournament. Returning to Andorra for the next 2 years to proudly compete for her country.
Ella has been selected to play for Scotland for the past 4 years and this year sees her playing for the Scotland under 15 girls team. Even though she is still only 13 years old! The team will be traveling to Barcelona at the end of June to compete in an international tournament, the 2017 Euro Basketball Cup.
Ella also plays Club basketball for Perth Phoenix. 2016 saw the Perth Phoenix U14 girls team as runners up in the Scottish National Championships.
2017 has been a huge success for Perth Phoenix seeing Team Captain Ella Doherty lift the winner’s trophy as Under 16 Girls Division 2 Champions.
Captaining the U14Perth Phoenix girls as well to victory in the Scottish Cup Championship (where she was chosen as MVP- Most Valued Player- of the final.)
And again, Captaining the U14 team as winners in the Scottish National Championships.
Scottish National Championship Competition always select an ‘Elite Team’ from all competing teams to be the best 5 players in the Championships. Ella has been chosen for the ‘Elite Team’ for the past 4 out of 5 years.
Last year Ella was invited to attend an under 18 Ladies Training Camp in San Jose in Spain where she trained with and competed against local Spanish teams.
Ella trains 3 nights a week in Perth and is very dedicated to her sport. She was Head Girl at Fossoway Primary School when she was in Primary 7 and is attaining top marks in her classes at Kinross High School.
This year Ella will attend a one day training camp run by Kieron Achara, Captain of Glasgow Rocks Pro Basketball Team and who also plays basketball for, and captains Team GB.
In August Ella will attend a one week basketball camp run by 4Point Basketball with the opportunity to train with international coaches from the USA.
