Oxygen Sensor Product Information

This is not standard on this type of oxygen (o2) analyzer but we can customize a sensor to meet these requirements as long as the volume was 100+

There is no price variation with these types of oxygen sensors, they are all the same price.

There is a 12 month warranty from manufacture date on all of our oxygen sensors and analyzers

Do not use soap and water to clean our O2 Oxygen Sensors as this would damage them. I would recommend. We would recommend cleaning with Isopropyl Alcohol only. We clean our oxygen sensor components with IPA during manufacture and the only oils present will be from manual handling. IPA should remove these.

 When operating the sensor in warm, humid environments it is important the sensor remains at higher temperature than it's surroundings, especially if there are corrosive components in the measurement gas. During operation this is not a problem due to 700degC generated by the heater, but this means when the sensor or application is being powered down the sensor heater must be the last thing to be turned off after the temperature of the surroundings have suitably cooled. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in condensation forming on the heater and sensing cell.

We do not have a formal qualification for the number of hours our oxygen sensors will operate or mean time between failure calculations. We do however have a lot of experience in various fields and we know in boiler exhaust applications the sensor normally lasts for over 7 years. This is a very harsh environments with high temperatures, humidity and a variety of corrosive gases.

For clean aerospace applications, we have customers who require 87, 600 hours of operating life (10 years) and although it cannot commit to warranty that have purchased these oxygen sensors from us since 2008.

All that is needed is a 24VDC supply and something to interpret the OXY-Flex output

Breeching velocity is the speed of the gas the sensor is measuring. It has to be within the range of 0-10m/s

Our Zriconia sensors are no good in combustible gases because they will burn them and, in doing so, use up some O2. Small amounts of combustible gases will be burned at the hot Pt-electrode surfaces or AI2O3 filters of the sensor. In general combustion will be stoichiometric as long as enough oxygen is available, the sensor will measure the residual oxygen pressure which leads to a measurement error. The sensor is not recommended for use in applications where there are large amounts of combustible gases present and an accurate O2 measurement is required. 

Investigated gases were;

• H2 (Hydrogen) up to 2%; stoichiometric combustion
• CO (Carbon Monoxide) up to 2%; stoichiometric combustion 
• CH4 (Methane) up to 2.5%; stoichiometric combustion 
• NH3 (Ammonia) up to 1500ppm; stoichiometric combustion 

SST oxygen sensors do not currently have an agency safety mark, no approval as yet but we are working on getting this.

Our O2 sensors are often used to measure humidity in hot environments (bakery ovens, for example). Unfortunately, we do not know exactly how our customers make these measurements. From the basic gas laws, you should be able to calculate how the (O2) oxygen partial pressure will change as a function of humidity.

Yes - a CofC can be provided for each shipment of the sensors and costs 50 Euro.

Our oxygen (o2) sensors can be handled are not ESD sensitive. The sensors are sensitive to shocks so must not be dropped. The oxygen (o2) sensors can be stored at extended temperatures (-40 to 125C) but should be kept in a sealed environment. The most important thing is that the sensors are stored and used in applications free from silicone which can poison them.

Most customers do not test these sensors as goods inwards. SST 100% test all sensors before shipment. A simple functional test in normal aor is easy for you to set up using one of our interface boards.

This is a one part oxygen analyzer. You make a hole in your fume hood and push the probe through it. The box with electronics needs to be outside in ambient air so that the electronics do not overheat. It is also possible to purchase separate oxygen sensor and electronics which allows you to the separate the two by up to one meter.

 Our O2I-FLEX datasheet explains this, but the O2I-FLEX board draws a 0.6A but there can be slightly larger inrush current when starting it up. We would therefore recommend a 1A fuse between the 24V supply and our PCB. 

CO2 is no problem. CO will combust inside the sensor causing a small reduction in the measured O2 value. The O2% must stay above 0.1% at all times. Values below this figure will cause damage to the sensor.

In theory, if you insulated it very well then it would lose less heat and so requires less power to heat the zirconia to 700C internally to allow operation. The effect would be quite small though, but we have never tested this.

No, our oxygen sensors simply sit in the area where the gas is to be sampled and so measure what is there. I deally, there should be a slight gas flow over the sensor tip because the sensors consume very small amount of O2 while measuring. Clearly, if there is no flow of fresh gasm then measured value steadily decreases.

In short, yes. The outside of the sensor cap will typically reach 250C to 180C
