KGZ12 series sensors are available in 12mm diameter probe style housings. These sensors are reliable, simple to operate and can be incorporated in controllers of varying complexity. Standard options are a 200mm probe length variant KGZ12SHORT and a 400mm probe length KGZ12. SST offer a custom sensor capability, and other probe lengths are possible. Unlike most oxygen sensors the KGZ12 Series do not require a reference gas, accurate dosing or a calibrated leak. They can be calibrated in normal ambient air and, in microcomputer-controlled systems, they can be automatically tested and recalibrated - important safety features.

The KGZ12 Seriesare high-accuracy oxygen sensors suitable for many applications. The sensor employs two ZrO2 discs with a small hermetically sealed chamber in between. One of the discs functions as a reversible oxygen pump, which is used to successively fill and empty the chamber. The second disc measures the ratio of the partial pressure difference and generates a corresponding sense voltage. A heat element produces the 700 °C required for the ZrO2 to operate as an O2 pump. The time taken for the pump to achieve specific minimum and maximum pressures within this chamber is a measure of the partial oxygen pressure of the environment.

The KGZ12 Series sensors have to be operated by an electronic measuring circuit that controls the sensor operation and signal processing. This circuit can either be incorporated into the customer’s own electronics, or be purchased as a separate interface board from SST.
